My name is Nugget. I live here. I have several thoughts.

I do not typically write my own posts. Nikki handles the typing because I have not found a keyboard arrangement that works for my paws and frankly her hands are more suited to it. But there are things happening in this household that I feel require a first-person account, and since she is busy I have decided to take matters into my own paws. Figuratively. She is typing this. She knows better than to argue about it.

On the Matter of the Bed

I want to begin by acknowledging that the bed situation has been resolved. It took longer than I would have preferred. The air mattress was a period I do not need to revisit in detail — I handled it, I managed the situation, I found solutions where Nikki found mostly floor. We do not need to relitigate the kindergarten mat. We have moved forward.

The new bed is acceptable. More than acceptable, if I am being transparent, which I always am. The mattress has appropriate density. The duvet insert provides suitable warmth without being excessive. The mattress protector is a responsible choice that I did not specifically request but which I support, as it protects an asset I use daily and extensively.

I have claimed three quarters of the queen mattress. This is reasonable given the circumstances, my contributions to this household, and the general principle that quality should be rewarded. Nikki occupies the remaining quarter. She has said she is thriving. I am glad to hear it. I will continue to monitor the situation.

On the Window and My Responsibilities

There is a window next to the bed. I have identified this window as a critical monitoring point and have established a post there during overnight hours when necessary. My position — back paws on the bed, front paws on the sill — provides optimal sightlines across the yard, the street, and the surrounding natural environment.

The wildlife situation in this neighborhood requires consistent supervision. There are birds. There are squirrels. There are butterflies whose movements I find worth noting. There are also leaves, which I monitor closely because you simply cannot know with leaves. I greet each one briefly and professionally. I am thorough. I am efficient. I return to bed promptly after each interaction.

Nikki has expressed some opinions about the noise level of my patrol. I would like to note that security is not a silent profession. I keep my reports brief. The yard is safe. She is welcome.

On the Food Situation

I will be brief on this point because I have made my position clear and I do not believe repetition is necessary, though I am capable of it and have demonstrated this daily for several weeks.

The home cooked meals are an important part of my routine. I am a dog who eats well because I live well and because I have communicated my preferences consistently and Nikki, to her credit, has historically honored them. We have been going through a transitional period. I understand. I am patient. I am also hungry in a specific way that her current offerings have not fully addressed, and I want that on the record.

I am told things will improve. I am choosing to believe this because the alternative is filing additional grievances and I have limited space in the box above.

In Closing

Overall I would rate this household a four out of five. The bed is good. The bedding is good. My window post is operational. Nikki is present, which is the most important thing, even when she is in her office chair at 2am instead of on the mat where I can put my head on her.

The home cooked meal situation remains an open item. I have noted it. The file is still active.
